Discover the KIG building in Königsleiten and take advantage of all the facilities!
Königsleiten is the ultimate destination for many tourists seeking to enjoy a winter holiday. The village is situated at an altitude of 1,470 to 1,600 metres, allowing visitors to ski during the day on sunny, snow-covered slopes and unwind in the afternoon with some après-ski. It’s an ideal spot for winter sports enthusiasts, but Königsleiten has much more to offer. On clear days, the highest observatory in Europe is a must-see. The stunning hiking areas and the swimming pool in Wald im Pinzgau are also very popular. Thanks to all these attractions, Königsleiten draws many tourists even in summer. To manage this influx in both seasons and meet the needs of the visitors, in collaboration with the Königsleitner Infrastruktur Gesellschaft (KIG), has created something special: the KIG building. This blog will give you all the details about this multifunctional project, which benefits both tourists and locals.
Benefiting
The new KIG building opened in December 2021, offering advantages for both visitors and residents of Königsleiten. The building provides a wide range of modern facilities and is designed to meet the needs of both locals and tourists. It has six floors and is located right at the entrance to the village, making it easily accessible from multiple directions.
Check the location of the building here.
Facilities
The carefully chosen location of the building is not the only thing that makes the project special; the modern facilities within the KIG building also stand out. Below is an overview of what the building offers you as a tourist:
Parking Spaces
The building features 179 parking spaces, available 24/7, so you'll always have a spot for your car. Parking costs vary by season and day. From Monday to Wednesday in both seasons, the first 30 minutes are free, and thereafter, the charge is €2 per hour. A day pass costs up to €20 in winter and up to €15 in summer.
From Thursday to Sunday, the rates differ. The hourly rate is €3, and a day pass costs up to €30 in winter and up to €20 in summer.
The winter season runs from 1 December to 30 April, and summer from 1 May to 30 November.
Different rates apply for short-term parking. Check these on the KIG website.
Electric Charging Points
For electric vehicles, there are 6 charging points available on the top parking deck. To charge your car, you need a parking card, which you can collect at the entrance gate. Plug in your car, hold your access ticket at the charging station scanner, and charging will begin. No additional charging card is required!
Payment for the energy used and parking time (the first 2 hours are free) can be made at the payment machine on level A. Charging costs €0.40 per kWh, and the charging power is 11 kW/h. Payments can be made with coins, NFC, or a credit card.
Car Wash
A car wash is available from 07:00 to 22:00, so you can easily keep your car clean. Regardless of the season, your car will inevitably encounter dirt due to weather conditions. Whether it's salt from winter roads, sticky autumn leaves, pollen, or insects on the windscreen, your car needs a clean several times a year.
The car wash has a height of 2.85 metres and a width of 4 metres. The payment system uses coins, so make sure you have cash with you.
Workspaces
On the ground floor of the Königsleitner building, you'll find a workspace that is modern and comfortable. You can work here in peace, focus, and make use of the latest technology. The space is flexibly available for rent and can be used whenever it suits you!
The rates are €25 per day and €75 per week.
Caravan Facilities
Special facilities for caravan guests are available at the KIG building. The caravan parking spaces are located on the south side of the new building, near the entrance to Königsleiten. They are accessible year-round, whether you come to hike in summer or ski in winter. The valley station of the Dorfbahn, which takes you up to 2,300 metres, is just a few minutes’ walk away, as are a supermarket, restaurants, bars, and sports shops.
The daily rates for the pitches are €15 from 1 May to 30 November and €35 from 1 December to 30 April. The pitch dimensions are 4.15 metres wide, 7.50 metres long, and 3.15 metres high.
The pitches in the yellow area include everything you need, such as electricity at a fixed rate, barrier-free toilets and showers, water and waste water facilities, a drain for dirty and grey water, a dishwasher (in the ski depot area), TV connection, WiFi, a ski depot, and a gym.
The free parking spaces in the red area have electricity, barrier-free toilets and showers, a drain for dirty and grey water, a dishwasher (in the ski depot area), WiFi, a ski depot, and a gym, but no water connection. Daily costs are €3.00 for environmental tax and €2.50 per night for tourist tax. You can also use extra services such as coworking space, washing machines and dryers, bread service, and a coffee and snack machine. The pitches are south-facing and accessible via a mountain road, so be sure to bring snow chains in winter. For the supermarket, you can visit Spar Königsleiten.
Laundry Room
Whether you’re travelling for an extended period or temporarily without a washing machine, the laundry room is open from 06:00 to 22:00 and provides everything you need to keep your clothes fresh and clean.
The laundry room includes 4 washing machines and 2 tumble dryers. A wash costs €4, and drying costs €3. Payment is easy with the WeWash App. No need to bring your own detergent as it is already included in the machines.
Ski Depot
Winter sports enthusiasts can safely and conveniently store their ski equipment in the secure ski depot of the KIG building.
Summer visitors can also benefit from the depot, as it can be used to store bike equipment, shoes, or hiking gear.
Small lockers cost €6 per day, large lockers €9, and XXL lockers €12. Annual costs are €170, €260, and €340, respectively.
Fitness Room
Stay fit during your holiday in the fitness room on the first basement level. The fitness room is equipped with a treadmill, exercise bike, dumbbells up to 22 kg, and a bench press.
The room is open daily from 06:00 to 22:00. The rates for a weekly pass are €30, and for a monthly pass €60.
Luggage Storage
On the ground floor is a lounge with secure lockers. This space can be used as a waiting area or to store luggage for guests who have already checked out but are departing later in the day.
There are twelve small lockers available at €1 per use and five large lockers at €2 per use. The lounge has seating, tables, and power outlets. In the building entrance, there is a coffee and snack machine. Guests can also use the showers on the third basement level if desired.
Climbing Wall
Since August 2021, the KIG building has featured a climbing wall with an impressive surface area of 105 m². This wall offers 16 different climbing routes for both beginners and advanced climbers and stands 8.5 metres tall. The wall has various inclines, including a positive climbing angle, meaning the wall leans towards you. This makes climbing more challenging as you need more strength and technique to hold on and ascend.
Thanks to the roof, you can also climb in bad weather. A maximum of 4 climbers can tackle the wall simultaneously. Climbing equipment can be rented from the local Sport 2000 Hölzl, located at Königsleiten 50 in Wald im Pinzgau.
In Conclusion
Since the establishment of the Königsleitner Infrastruktur Gesellschaft in 2017 and the opening of the KIG building in 2021, both residents and visitors of Königsleiten have benefited from a wide range of facilities. Whether you’re looking for an electric charging station, a quiet workspace during your holiday, or just want to stay fit, it’s all possible thanks to the collaboration between 18 local businesses and the municipality of Wald im Pinzgau.
