Spring activities in Austria
1.Mountain biking through the Austrian landscape
With the speed and agility of a mountain bike, you can traverse dense forests, beautiful open meadows, and cool streams in a day. The Hochkönig region, with the villages of Maria-Alm, Dienten, and Mühlbach am Hochkönig, is known for its excellent facilities for mountain bikers and e-mountain bikers. There are plenty of opportunities to rent suitable bikes, and there is no shortage of charging stations for e-mountain bikes. But there's more: consider booking in the vicinity of Neukirchen, Wald im Pinzgau, or Bramberg (Wildkogel Arena), where there are over 800 kilometers of mountain bike routes, or explore the Kitzbühel Alps on your mountain bike.
2.Short and long hiking trails
The Austrian mountain landscape is perfect for the most beautiful hiking trails. The cable car or chairlift takes you up a bit, and from there, numerous well-marked hiking routes start. You can choose a hiking trail of a few kilometers or opt for longer hikes that take multiple days, with overnight stays in one of the many charming mountain huts. There are also themed hikes that allow you to expand your knowledge. Follow a route with information panels along the way or hike accompanied by a guide. For more information, check out our previous blog post: Hiking in Austria.3. Go karting and sliding!
Race on sturdy tricycle karts through the mountains at the mountain kart track near Neukirchen and Bramberg! Thanks to karts available in different sizes, this exciting activity is also suitable for children. Read more in our previous blog post about activities in the Wildkogel Arena. Also, explore the information about the "rutschenweg," a slide path that makes hiking with children even more fun! There are ten slides ranging from 22 to an impressive 52 meters in length. Screaming with joy, you'll disappear into transparent tubes and dive into tunnels.4. Summer tobogganing
Don't let the name fool you; summer tobogganing tracks are open by mid-spring. Hop on a toboggan and race through loops and jumps with speed! Just like in winter, tobogganing in Austria is a highlight for people of all ages. You can safely seat small children in front of you between your legs on the toboggan, allowing them to steer along while you maintain control of the pace. Visit the Maisiflitzer in Kaprun, for example, which is over 1300 meters long and can be enjoyed with children as young as 3 years old.
5.Enjoy delicious food!
In addition to physical activities, there is, of course, time for relaxation. Take a seat in a cozy guesthouse or one of the high-altitude mountain huts and indulge in the tasty Austrian cuisine. Sample the famous Wiener schnitzel, Käsespätzle, Kaiserschmarrn, Apfelstrudel, or Goulash soup. What is your favorite local specialty?
