Saalbach-Hinterglemm, also known as Saalbach and Hinterglemm, are two charming villages in the Austrian mountains that are primarily known as winter sports destinations. Does the idea of settling down on a sun-soaked terrace after a long hike or bike ride through diverse natural landscapes sound like a vacation to you? Book an Austrian holiday chalet in Saalbach-Hinterglemm for your summer vacation.

Into the mountains!

In the mountains, you feel small compared to the imposing peaks, you merge with the landscape and feel lighter and freer. Saalbach-Hinterglemm is located in the Glemmtal valley, where you can fully immerse yourself in the mountain scenery by hiking, mountain biking, and climbing. With the Joker Card, often included with your vacation rental in this region, you can have unlimited access to all cable cars, chairlifts, hiking buses, guided hikes, and much more.

Walking on the Golden Gate Bridge

ot the version from San Francisco, but the 'Alpine Golden Gate Bridge' is 200 meters long and offers spectacular views of the Glemmtal and surrounding mountains. The bridge hangs 42 meters above the ground and is part of the 'Baumzipfelweg,' a beautiful hiking trail that starts a few kilometers outside of Hinterglemm. After the Golden Gate Bridge, the trail continues on a wooden structure that takes you through the treetops. The entire hike is five kilometers long and suitable for children. Along the way, you'll also come across the Lindlingalm mountain hut, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch, have a drink, or try Austrian specialties such as Kaiserschmarren!

The only way is down

Saalbach-Hinterglemm has a network of over 400 kilometers of trails suitable for mountain bikes and e-bikes. It's a superb destination for experienced mountain bikers, and due to the excellent facilities and guidance, it's also suitable for beginners. There are plenty of mountain bikes available for rent, and with the Joker Card, mountain bikers can also use all the lifts. This is particularly convenient because there are exciting downhill routes to explore. These special downhill routes are all about descending. It may sound easy, but downhill mountain biking requires skill and proper safety equipment!

Climbing fun

limbing with the whole family is possible at Hochseilpark Saalbach-Hinterglemm, a sort of enlarged adventure playground with many routes called 'kletterparcours' that take you to great heights. On these routes, you secure yourself with a climbing harness, climb among treetops, and descend again. The kletterparcours are suitable for children who are at least 130 cm tall.

Relaxation follows exertion

Of course, there are also enjoyable activities in the vicinity of Saalbach-Hinterglemm that require a little less endurance. Give yourself some rest between intense days, allowing your body to relax and recharge before heading back to the mountains.

Lounging on a sunbathing lawn

For example, spend an afternoon relaxing on the sunbathing lawn of Käpt'n Hook swimming pool, which not only has a fun-themed pool with slides, a wildwater channel, climbing net, and water sprayer but also a great restaurant with a terrace on top of the so-called deck of the pirate ship. Additionally, with the Joker Card, you'll receive an attractive discount on the admission fee.

Wellness in the forest

Can you picture yourself lying in a hammock among the trees? Then visit the 'forest wellness trail' at Reiteralm. Although this trail is a short walking route, along the way, you can take a nap in a hammock, practice yoga, find a library, and discover a picnic area where you can even pre-order a deliciously filled picnic basket.

Visit the nearby Zell am See

Visiting a town is always a pleasant pastime. You can do a bit of shopping, enjoy good food, and explore some sights in Zell am See (about a 20-minute drive away). Zell am See has a charming and traffic-free center where you can wander around, find a nice selection of shops, including stores selling local delicacies. Its location on Lake Zell also makes it a suitable place to combine with a relaxing afternoon by the lake.

On the terrace

The surroundings of Saalbach-Hinterglemm boast so many lovely terraces that it would be a shame not to spend a few hours there. There are authentically Austrian mountain huts such as Sonnalm (take the Reiterkogelbahn up) with flowers, picnic tables, blankets, umbrellas, and a menu featuring local specialties. There are also trendier establishments like 'eva,ALM' Bar & Lounge in the center of Saalbach, where you can enjoy drinks as well as beautifully presented lunch and dinner dishes. Lastly, don't forget to have a meal, read a book, or relax on the terrace or balcony of your holiday chalet or apartment. That's also what vacation is all about!
