Summer in the Lungau region
The southernmost region of Salzburger Land is located 100 km from Salzburg Airport: Lungau. There is an extensive network of more than 500 km of bicycle paths on which mountain bikers, touring cyclists, and recreational cyclists will get their money's worth. You can also easily combine cycling tours in the Lungau region with a visit to numerous attractions such as outdoor swimming pools, wellness centers, castles, and museums. In the Lungau region, you can spend infinite time outdoors. For example, go water sports on the river Mur where you can opt for an afternoon of kayaking, rafting, canoeing, or canyoning. Wherever you stay, an afternoon of water fun is always nearby.

If you are on holiday with the family, miniature golf in Mauterndorf and St. Michael is a must. 4. Traditions and Regional Customs
Lungau is known for its lively folk culture in which Alpine customs and traditions play an important role. During the Lungau Alpine Summer and Harvest Festival, tourists and locals celebrate centuries-old festivals side by side. Traditions are handed down within families over many generations, such as the unique Samson parades and the renowned Prangstangen festivities held in Muhr and Zederhaus.
Did you know that you can find 10 of the 12 Samson figures in this region? Of the twelve Samson figures in the inner-alpine region, ten are located in the Salzburger Lungau: Mariapfarr, St. Andrä, Mauterndorf, Muhr, Ramingstein, St. Margarethen, St. Michael, Tamsweg, Unternberg and Wölting and two in the neighbouring Styria: Krakaudorf and Murau.
5. UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Salzburger Lungau
In July 2012, the Salzburger Lungau was awarded the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This is an exceptional award as it makes the region the youngest and largest UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in all of Austria.
