Genieten in een chalet in Oostenrijk in de zomer

What comes to mind when you think of Austria? Snow-capped peaks, alpine meadows, crystal clear lakes or traditional chalets? The good news is that all of this and much more is waiting for you this summer. A chalet in the mountains is the perfect base for your summer holiday in Austria.

What does your ideal summer holiday in Austria look like?

Active Holiday
The Austrian Alps have no shortage of outdoor sports to pack into an adventure holiday. Mountain or road biking, climbing, and hiking are all popular, but you can also try white-water rafting, canyoning, or even summer skiing in Kaprun.

Relaxing Holiday
If you'd prefer to take it easy, there is plenty to do on a relaxing holiday in the region. The villages are a world away from the bustle of the city and the mountain views make a stunning backdrop. Just enjoying a coffee on the terrace in the morning sun is a real pleasure. Then there are pleasant riverside walks, spa retreats, or cable car rides into the mountains. You can wander around unspoilt alpine hamlets and a good rustic restaurant is never far away.

Family Holiday
Austria is a wonderful place to spend a family holiday. There is so much to do here to keep both adults and children entertained. Many of the chalets have extra child-friendly facilities on-site or nearby, such as playgrounds, swimming pools, or family restaurants. Here are a few of the activities on offer.

  • Hiking in the mountains
  • Biking
  • Taking a cable car
  • Outdoor swimming
  • Summer skiing
  • Golf and mini-golf
  • Rafting
  • Canyoning
  • Pony-trekking
  • Visiting the Krimmler Waterfalls

Holiday in comfort
If you are looking for comfort, the Nationalpark Chalets in Neukirchen am Großvenediger could be your perfect destination. The well-equipped chalets have access to their own swimming lake, overlooked by a terrace where you can relax with a drink. For children, there is a playground and adventure forest. The complex also has a restaurant, bar, sports shop with bike hire, and chapel. The National Park Sommercard is included if you stay in a chalet, giving you free access to many attractions and services in the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Summer in the Austrian Alps
These mountains are famous for world-renowned ski resorts like Kitzbuhel and Soll. Happily for mountain lovers, the legendary ski towns open their doors to summer visitors too. Many of the ski lifts open in summer for hikers, mountaineers, or mountain bikers. If that sounds a bit energetic, you can simply take a cable car to a mountain restaurant with spectacular views.
Outside the ski areas, there are many beautiful villages to explore. The Austrian mountains are not quite the highest in Europe, but they pack in more chocolate---box charm than most alpine regions combined. In short, you won't regret spending your summer holiday in Austria.
Straddling Tyrol, Salzberg, and Kärnten, the Hohe Tauern National Park is the oldest in Austria. It is home to the country's highest mountain, the Großglockner, and longest glacier, the Pasterze. The tallest waterfall in Europe can be found here too, the 380 metre high Krimmler Wasserfälle.
Our chalets make a great starting point for your adventures in some of the most beautiful parts of Austria. There are over 300 properties in Salzburg and the neighbouring provinces. These range in size from apartments suitable for a couple or small family, up to detached chalets that are ideal for big families or larger groups.

Walking Holidays
From a hiker's perspective, the Austrian Alps are a genuine paradise. The Tyrol and Salzberg regions host high mountains and alpine pastures straight out of the Sound of Music. Thousands of kilometres of well-signposted walking trails are waiting for you. Hikers are well looked after too. An extensive network of mountain refuges provides refreshments and meals. The refuges also provide overnight accommodation to those embarking on multi-day excursions. Down in the valleys, special hiking bus and taxi services make it easy to get around on roads that are often car-free.
From a base in one of the picturesque alpine villages, you can access all levels of hiking trail, with or without a guide. Read more about hiking in the Lungau, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, or Zillertal areas while planning your summer holiday in Austria.

Mountain Biking
From long-distance routes alongside a river to exhilarating singletrack, Austria has something for all styles of mountain biker. There are extensive networks of trails at all difficulty levels, with bike maps available to help you navigate. Mountain restaurants and refuges save you having to carry too much food, and there are accommodation options if you want to put together a multi-day trip. Dedicated bike-friendly mountain huts have repair facilities and parts to get you going after a mechanical. Mountain bike guides are available for both novice and experienced riders if you want to be shown around the trails.

Downhill Mountain Biking
What happens to all the ski lifts when the snow melts? For an increasing number of resorts, the answer is that they turn into bike lifts. If you love challenging descents on a bike and want to maximise your downhill time, lift-accessed biking is the way to go. Head to the Zillertal-Arena or Saalbach Hinterglemm Bike Circus for mountain bike uplift in the Austrian Alps.
