Zell am See-Kaprun Schmitten

The region is divided into three ski areas with a total of 138 kilometres of slopes and 62 runs: Kitzsteinhorn, Schmittenhöhe and Maiskogel. The Kitzsteinhorn near Kaprun offers a skiing experience up to the summit and on the glacier. The neighbouring Maiskogel - now also connected to the Kitzsteinhorn by cable car - is an ideal area for families and beginners. The Schmittenhöhe is the local mountain of Zell am See and is considered the most beautiful panorama mountain in Austria. You can count 30 three-thousand-metre peaks on the horizon!

Here there is a lot to experience for experienced skiers, families and beginners alike. Professional ski schools offer challenging children's programmes, so that parents can ski down the slopes on their own. In addition to the ski runs, there are more than a dozen ski tours on offer that provide nature lovers with an extraordinary experience. The Trass downhill run into the valley is a classic among experts.

The ski area near Zell am See has a very special atmosphere and is unique thanks to its location. The 77 kilometres of slopes are very varied and offer magnificent views of Lake Zell and the sophisticated winter sports town. Most of the slopes are over 1,500m high and the highest point is on the 2,000m high Schmittenhöhe. The Zell am See ski pass is also valid in the Kaprun ski area, where the other 61 kilometres of slopes are located: 41 on the Kitzsteinhorn and 20 on the Maiskogel.

Ski pass

The Zell am See ski pass is valid in both ski areas (Zell am See and Kaprun) and you can shuttle free of charge with the ski bus on presentation of a valid ski pass.

The ski bus takes you quickly and free of charge from mountain to mountain with a valid ski pass.
 

Ski rental

Rent a complete ski equipment, a snowboard or for example only skis without boots. You can choose from several shops, which normally work with 3 or 4 price categories. So you always have the right equipment at the best price.

Snowboarding

At an altitude of 2,900 metres, the Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark offers three different adventure worlds from easy to difficult and the legendary Superpipe. The Schmittenhöhe offers a large area for beginners and advanced skiers as well as the longest funslope in the world.
 

Cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiers certainly won't miss out in Zell am See! The picturesque surroundings around the lake and the wonderful view will always surprise you. The local cross-country trails (58km) are connected to the more than 200km long Pinzgau-Weg. Spectacular is the 3-kilometre long glacier path at 2,850 metres above sea level in the Kaprun ski area.
 

Tobogganing

Feel the wind in your hair on the maize toboggan run. Sharp curves, speed and excitement make for fun in the mountains, while you determine the speed yourself. If you don't use the brake at all, you can reach speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour. The toboggan run is located at Maiskogel near Kaprun, about 15 minutes by car from Zell am See.
 

Après-ski

The bear rages above the lake: 20 huts and mountain restaurants await you on the Schmittenhöhe alone. Insiders build their favourite bars into the descents down to Zell am See and stay everywhere for a sociable drink. Above Kaprun there are another 14 huts, including the famous summit hut on the Kitzsteinhorn with breathtaking views. Once you have finally parked your skis, Zell am See has all the attractions of the evening waiting for you: over 100 restaurants, bars and discotheques are open in the season!
