Viehhofen is a small, friendly village in the Glemm Valley in the Salzburg region. The village enjoys a central location, surrounded by the mountains of Pinzgau, and it is situated near the very popular and bustling holiday villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm. With only 700 residents, Viehhofen is much quieter compared to the nearby villages, making it the ideal starting point for your summer vacation!

Brief Description of Viehhofen

What makes Viehhofen an ideal starting point is that the region around Viehhofen is fully focused on hikers. The peaks are relatively easy to reach due to the beautiful meadows and gentle landscapes. Along the way to the highest point, there are plenty of places to rest. Breaks can be taken at a beautiful mountain lake or one of the mountain huts.

Pinzga Hatscha

For true adventurers, everything has been created in the Salzburg Saalachtal. Thus, the Pinzga Hatscha was created; a beautiful long-distance hike of about 390 km through the Pinzgau Mountains. The route is divided into 15 stages. This means that not only experienced hikers can tackle the route, but also beginners or families. And if the tour becomes too strenuous, you can always take the (hiking) bus.

Archery Paradise

In Viehhofen, you can find not only some beautiful hiking trails but also other activities. In the mountains, you can also go cycling and mountain biking. In fact, the Glemm Valley is described as a true cycling paradise due to the accessible peaks and numerous cycling paths. Archery enthusiasts also feel like they're in paradise in Viehhofen. The Gasthof Glemmerhof, at the beginning of Viehhofen, has one of the most impressive archery courses in all of Salzburg. A path through the forest includes a total of 28 different shooting stations!

Playing Tennis Amidst the Mountains

Another sporting challenge in the area is playing a round of tennis. The nearby Saalbach-Hinterglemm has its own tennis court. So, you can have a sporty match with your friends or family anytime. The three outdoor courts also offer a magnificent view of the mountains surrounding Saalbach-Hinterglemm. If the weather doesn't cooperate, there's also an indoor tennis court you can use. This way, you always have the opportunity to challenge yourself sportily during your summer vacation in Viehhofen.

Golfing on Vacation

If you visit Viehhofen in the summer, it's the perfect opportunity to play golf. When the sun is shining, it's delightful to stroll from one hole to another while enjoying a sporty game. In the Golfclub Zell am See - Kaprun - Saalbach-Hinterglemm, you'll find two 18-hole golf courses. For families with children, perhaps Minigolf Hinterglemm is a better choice. In short, golfing in Austria is an enjoyable activity you should experience in the summer.

Refreshing Swimming in Austria

One of the best summer activities in Viehhofen is visiting the swimming pool in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Käpt’n Hook Adventure Pool is a great place for a refreshing day in the water. This swimming pool is equipped with fun play equipment for the little ones, including several slides. The panoramic restaurant of the swimming pool is a good place to relax after all the water fun. Another option for swimming is located near the village. The Strandbad Zell am See is only a 10-minute drive from Viehhofen and is located on the west side of Lake Zell. The Strandbad Schüttdorf-Seespitz on the south side of the lake is a 16-minute drive away, and the Strandbad Thumersbach is 12 minutes away, on the east side of Lake Zell. From this swimming area, you have a view of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier area.

Taking the Cable Car to Great Heights

Would you like to enjoy the beautiful views in the area undisturbed? Then you should take a ride on the Steinberg Cable Car. It's easy to reach if you've rented a cabin or apartment in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and takes you to an impressive height of 1,762 meters.
